Leeds United: 49ers Enterprises stance on Kalvin Phillips transfer at Elland Road
Kalvin Phillips is unlikely to return to Leeds United on loan from Manchester City this summer because it’s financially unviable to the 49ers, according to Joe Donnohue.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist has reported (16 April), that the 49ers Enterprises are unlikely to sanction a move that would see the Whites cover his entire wage packet, while Man City are unlikely to subsidise his wages enough to make a loan move plausible.
Man City want to sell Phillips permanently this summer after his failed West Ham loan and are looking for £30m, which would be too hefty for Leeds as a newly promoted club, on top of the £150,000-a-week wages.
Leeds United must move on from Kalvin Phillips
There would be plenty of romantic think pieces made if Phillips moved back to Elland Road this summer, but is it a signing that the club needs?
Daniel Farke has made the team one that has a lot of energy and pace, able to transition quickly but also control the ball in midfield to hurt teams.
Phillips has never been the most athletic midfielder in the world, but his ability to win the ball back and pass forward is fantastic. But with all that said, he isn’t someone that Leeds need to sign and their attentions should certainly be elsewhere.

Financially it’s going to be an expensive deal and after the way the summer window went last time out with big money spent, they have to be wise and with Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu already at the club, the future is sorted.
Going backwards would be a big mistake for the club, but nothing can happen until promotion is secured one way or another.
