Leeds United: £20m Joe Rodon permament transfer from Tottenham mooted by club owner

Brian Deane believes Leeds United should pay the £20million fee to sign Joe Rodon on a permanent transfer from Tottenham.

Speaking to Football League World on Friday (8 March), the pundit, who owns FC Ferizaj in Kosovo, said the Welsh international playing in the Whites side and building up chemistry during his loan spell this season justifies them paying the money to sign him.

He added that the 26-year-old centre-back has put himself in the shop window after impressing over the past few months at Elland Road.

“If he fits into the category of being good enough for the Premier League, then they should pay the money, £20million now is just an average price for a Premier League player,” said Deane.

“Having played in the team and having that chemistry helps justify the transfer fee, but he’s definitely in the shop window right now.

“Look at Ben White, he came up to Leeds and was an absolute superstar, went back to Brighton and then £50million later at Arsenal, so it just shows you what can happen when you’re in the shop window.

“It gives the player the opportunity, the parent club of the player the opportunity to have him in the shop window, and it’s a great position for everybody.”

Leeds United must secure Joe Rodon permanent transfer

It would be hard to find anyone associated with Leeds who wouldn’t want to see Rodon join the club on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

The defender has been in superb form for the club since joining on loan from Tottenham, having played a major role in what is currently the best defence in the Championship.

It will probably depend on which division the Whites are playing in next season, though, as there are likely to be Premier League sides interested in signing him if they don’t get promoted.

Leeds United fans are amongst the most passionate supporters in the country.

That means the stakes are even higher for Daniel Farke’s side as they will no doubt be keen to ensure his long-term future will be at Elland Road.

While the fee being discussed does sound like a lot of money on paper, he has experience playing in the top flight and the club know exactly what he’s about after his time so far in West Yorkshire.
