Leeds transfers: ‘Outrageously high bid’ could be accepted for Geubbels move
Leeds United will have to submit an “outrageously high” bid to sign Willem Geubbels from St Gallen, according to 4-4-2.
The Swiss website reported [24 January] that St Gallen have decided not to sell the 23-year-old striker, and with no exit clause in his contract, it would take a huge bid to change the club’s mind.
This comes after news, as per Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, that the Whites are considering launching a loan bid for the French forward, who has six goals and two assists in the league this season.
Leeds United to ready eye-watering bid for Willem Geubbels?
Daniel Farke looks to be just one out-and-out No.10 away from building a complete squad, one which can secure automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
Leeds have put themselves in a brilliant position to achieve that feat, sitting atop the Championship table after 28 matches, one point above Sheffield United and three points above Burnley.
However, only Joel Piroe has hit double-digit goals in the division this season, with Dan James and Brenden Aaronson on seven, followed behind by Manor Solomon with five.
Last season, Piroe finished third in Leeds’ topscorer list. Crysencio Summerville and James led the way in terms of goals while Georginio Rutter was the primary playmaker.
While it is positive that goals can come from anywhere this season, the Whites are lacking that out-and-out goalscorer who can take the game by the scruff of the neck, pop up in vital areas, and finish off games.

This is absolutely vital if the team are to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking, having missed out in such a cruel fashion last term.
Fans are not fully sold by Geubbels, who has 19 goals in 73 appearances for St Gallen, but it could be a risk worth taking, depending on how much the Swiss club are holding out for.
In other Leeds United news, £5million could seal a deal for Leeds to sign an international defender.
