Leeds told Haji Wright theirs for taking in possible second top-flight chance for Coventry star

Coventry City forward Haji Wright may find the prospect of playing for Leeds in the Premier League too much to turn down.

Leeds have been linked with Wright and Norwich City ace Josh Sargent ahead of the January transfer window opening.

Wright has scored 36 Championship goals across the past three seasons, including eight in 13 appearances for league-leading Coventry this term.

The American has experienced top-flight European football once before, having made seven appearances for Schalke 04 in 2018-19, but he may soon get another chance – this time in the Premier League.

Haji Wright set for ‘interesting’ Leeds and Coventry choice

Leeds’ lack of goals this season is proving a real worry and is something that may well have to be rectified in the January transfer window.

The Whites have been linked with Wright of late, and EFL expert Don Goodman believes the 27-year-okd would find it hard to say no to Leeds – or indeed any other top-flight side.

“It’s an interesting decision that Haji Wright would have to make,” Goodman told Football League World.

I’m not sure if you can snub a Premier League club in November, when the transfer window is a while away yet, and obviously we need to establish whether this is just speculation or not.

Look, they’re two phenomenal clubs, but I’m not sure that there are many Championship players who would turn down the opportunity to come to a Premier League club.”

Wright has started 12 of Championship’s 14 matches this season and has appeared from the substitutes’ bench once.

Wright third in Championship top goalscorers charts

Coventry have had a very strong start to the 2025-26 campaign and are on course for a return to the Premier League.

Wright has played a big part in that with his 10 goals and three assists in 14 appearances, ranking him third in terms of the division’s top scorers.

Haji Wright is the Championship’s third-top scorer this season with nine goals

Coventry teammate Brandon Thomas-Asante leads the way with 10 goals, while Carlton Morris of Derby County is second with nine.

Kieffer Moore and Joe Gelhardt round off the top five with eight and seven goals respectively, so Wright is in some good company.

It goes without saying Leeds fans would love an in-form forward to arrive early in the New Year, but whether Wright is that man or not remains to be seen.
