Leeds to wrap up summer signing No 3 this week or next – reliable journalist

Leeds United will wrap up a deal to re-sign Jack Harrison on loan either this week or next, according to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross.

Harrison, 23, has spent the last two seasons on loan at Elland Road and it was widely believed that he would sign permanently from Manchester City this summer.

However, a change of plan means that he is now set to join on loan for a third summer in a row to become Leeds’ third signing of this summer after Illan Meslier and Helder Costa.

Writing in a Q&A on the LeedsLive website, Cross said: “Meslier and Costa are already done. Harrison should get signed off this week or next, while, unsurprisingly, Ben White is the big target of the summer. Harrison will be another year’s loan.”

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay went into further detail about the new agreement for Harrison earlier this month as the Stoke-born winger can still be signed permanently by Leeds next year, but it would cost them “in the region of £10million” rather than the £8million fee previously reported.

It makes sense because Leeds, like almost every other club and business in the world, has been hit in the pocket by the coronavirus pandemic.

Although the fee will end up being slightly larger, it is better than Leeds having to pay £8million this summer when they might not be able to afford it.

It’s a good piece of business by the club and it is good that Man City have agreed to a deal like this, which suggests there is definitely some kind of relationship between the Whites and the Citizens.

One drawback to Harrison signing on loan is that Premier League clubs can only have two players on loan from other Premier League clubs and no more than one from one particular club.

That means Leeds cannot sign another player on loan from Man City this summer with Harrison due to arrive on temporary terms for a third year in a row.

So much for Adrian Durham’s claim that John Stones should head to Elland Road on loan.
