Leeds switch left-back search to someone more experienced than Larouci
Leeds United do not appear to be interested in signing Liverpool left-back Yasser Larouci, according to The Athletic journalist Caoimhe O’Neill.
Last week, The Mirror reported that Marcelo Bielsa is in the hunt for a new left-back this summer and 20-year-old Larouci is someone he’s looked into signing.
However, writing on The Athletic website, O’Neill reports that while Leeds have shown an interest in Larouci and felt as though he was “too expensive” a few windows ago, they have switched their search to find a more experienced left-back than the Liverpool youngster.
Larouci’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season and even though the player who was once deemed to be expensive will become a free agent, it does not look as though the Whites will revive their interest.
Genuine PvA interest?
Last week, The Mirror also reported that Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt was on Leeds’ radar with his contract at Selhurst Park due to expire in the summer.
Van Aanholt, 30, certainly fits the bill as an experienced left-back with the 12-times Netherlands international playing over 200 times in the Premier League across spells at Chelsea, Wigan, Sunderland and Palace.
Ezgjan Alioski’s deal at Leeds expires in the summer so it would not be a massive shock to see the North Macedonian moved on and van Aanholt brought in as a replacement without so much of a dent being placed in the club’s transfer budget.
While Alioski is popular among the squad and the fans, he’s struggled in the Premier League this season and was hardly one of the better players Bielsa had in the Championship.
Phil Hay’s suggested there’ll be a moving away from the Championship old guard and letting Alioski move onto pastures new and signing a Dutch international with a wealth of Premier League experience seems a logical route.
As for Larouci, he might come good one day. Liverpool must have rated him highly for him to be deemed as expensive by Leeds but at the age of 20, he’s set to become a free agent.
Someone will snap him up. It just doesn’t seem as though it will be Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, Jeff Stelling has made a mouthwatering transfer claim about this £30million-rated player linked with Leeds.
