Leeds reject £29m bid for Raphinha from Barcelona - report

Leeds have rejected Barcelona’s £29m offer for Raphinha and referred them to his £65m release clause for a deal to be done, according to Sport.

The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou this summer, with reports that he has already agreed a five-year-deal with the Catalan giants [Sport].

It’s now being reported that Barcelona have made their move for the 25-year-old, but Leeds have communicated to them that they have no intention of accept the opening £29m offer.

Despite interest from Liverpool, Man City and Bayern Munich too, Raphinha is believed to have chosen Barcelona because of manager Xavi’s vision for the club going into next season.

They say that the Leeds ace has halted negotiations for a new deal at Elland Road as he looks to secure a move away from the club following a tough season in the Premier League.

It’s no surprise that Raphinha is a wanted man by some of Europe’s best, because he is one of Europe’s best.

It’s also absolutely no shock that the club have rejected an derisory opening offer, considering how much he has improved since joining the club for £17m two years ago, with Daniel James describing him as a ‘magician‘.

The release clause has been denied by Leeds themselves but it seems unlikely that there isn’t something there considering the briefs coming out of Europe, likely from his agent Deco.

Leeds must be careful though as if they get relegated the suggestion is that his release clause will drop to just £25m, less than Barcelona’s current offer, and far less than his market value.

In an ideal world they stay in the Premier League and convince him to sign a new deal, but it seems as though that ship has sailed and we’re into the final few games of his Elland Road career.

In other Leeds news, BBC Pundit has backed Leeds star to make ‘exciting’ Premier League move and use club as a ‘stepping stone’.
