Leeds ready £15m bid to sign centre-back set to quit PL club, wants to play for Bielsa - report
Leeds United are ready to bid £15million for Tottenham centre-back Juan Foyth, according to a report on The Sun’s website.
The newspaper claims that the 22-year-old defender is set to quit Spurs after dropping down the pecking order under manager Jose Mourinho.
It is understood that Leeds want to sign Ben White permanently from Brighton but are trying to land Foyth regardless of whether or not they complete a deal for the 22-year-old loan star.
The Sun adds that Foyth is eager to play for Leeds United manager, and fellow Argentine, Marcelo Bielsa, with him being quoted as previously saying: “Bielsa is one of the best coaches in the world and it would be nice to be coached by him.”
Foyth has made just 32 appearances in his three years on the books at Tottenham.
The young Argentina international was brought in by Mauricio Pochettino but struggled to get a foothold in the Spurs first-team due to a wealth of top-quality defensive options.
Mourinho’s arrival has led to Foyth struggling even more with him playing just seven times in all competitions this term and starting just once in the Premier League.
It is unlikely that Leeds will be able to sign White from Brighton with the 22-year-old’s latest Instagram post suggesting he’s resigned to the fact he’s played his final game for the Yorkshire club.
Foyth hasn’t had the best of opportunities in North London but a move to play for Bielsa, who is known for improving players, could be what he needs to spark some life into his career in English football.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are set to miss out on this striker.
