Leeds ready to sanction Joe Gelhardt exit for shock £5m discount
Leeds United could confirm a Joe Gelhardt sale for a cut-price fee this summer.
The 23-year-old spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Hull City after being a bit-part player under Daniel Farke.
It is fair to say that the Englishman was a success away from Elland Road as he became an instant fan favourite across Yorkshire.
Even with a positive campaign behind him, it appears that a cheap deal could be welcomed by the Whites to move Gelhardt on in the coming weeks.

Leeds United welcome cut-price Gelhardt sale
When the forward joined from Wigan Athletic, it felt as if the sky was the limit for the youngster for his spell in LS11.
This saw Marcelo Bielsa speak out about the attacker in his time at Leeds, showcasing his love for the Englishman in an interview with Sky Sports (27 November 2021).
He said: “I like him, he’s really exciting. He’s fast, he’s aggressive, he gets on the ball, he takes people on. Once he gets into the box, he loves it. That’s where he can do most of his damage.”
As a result, it is disappointing to see how things have gone for the former Sunderland loanee, after being limited to just 16 Whites appearances since 2023.
Years | Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2018-2020 | Wigan Athletic | 21 | 1 | 0 |
2020-2023 | Leeds United | 42 | 3 | 5 |
2023 | Sunderland | 20 | 3 | 3 |
2023-2025 | Leeds United | 16 | 1 | 0 |
2025 | Hull City | 20 | 5 | 0 |
This could see a summer exit make complete sense for the former England Under-20 international, with a cut-price deal potentially on the table.
The Hull Daily Mail reported on 6 June (page 40) that Farke’s side are willing to sell Gelhardt after earning promotion to the Premier League.
The Liverpool-born ace was initially set to cost a potential suitor upwards of £8million, but that looks set to have been lowered by £5m to £3m moving into the upcoming season.

Gelhardt to agree £3m Leeds United exit
The versatile attacker is unlikely to make a return to Leeds in the Premier League and have any sort of impact on the first-team squad.
With Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford already available to Farke, the re-introduction of Gelhardt would potentially make him the fourth choice.
This will only be made worse if another option like Callum Wilson comes in this summer and looks to take up a regular starting role in LS11.
