Leeds ready to hijack rival swoop for PL forward amid standstill over contract clauses – report
Leeds United are ready to hijack Swansea’s efforts to sign Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster on loan after a stumbling block was hit in negotiations, according to the Independent.
The report claims that Swansea had reached an agreement to sign Brewster, 19, on loan for the rest of the season without any kind of fee involved, except for “wage recovery and financial penalties” if he does not play as often as Liverpool would hope.
However it is understood that talks between the Welsh side and the European champions have reached a standstill due to certain clauses in Brewster’s loan contract, such as goal bonuses.
Leeds, who have been linked with Brewster after Eddie Nketiah was recalled from his loan spell at Elland Road by Arsenal, are now reportedly waiting in the wings to take advantage of any breakdown in negotiations between their Championship rivals and Liverpool.
The Independent adds that Leeds, as well as Bristol City, have been in touch with Brewster’s representatives as they aim to land the England Under-21 international before the end of the month.
Brewster’s preference is Swansea but there is no reason why Leeds cannot force themselves into the reckoning to sign the highly-rated young striker.
Marcelo Bielsa is the best manager in the Championship and is bound to have a major impact on Brewster if he was to head to Elland Road.
As seen with Nketiah, regular game-time off the bench is guaranteed, but appearances from the start are not.
However what is going to be more beneficial for Liverpool? Letting Brewster start every now and then for an inexperienced club manager like Steve Cooper? Or letting him get half an hour or more on the pitch each week under the guidance of the man who Pep Guardiola called the best coach in the world?
