Leeds ready for imminent Mehdi Taremi decision as Fulham transfer race concludes
Leeds United could be just days away from completing the signing of Mehdi Taremi.
The striker seems destined to depart Inter Milan this summer, after failing to have a significant impact at the San Siro last term.
Leeds recently launched a fresh approach to sign Taremi, who is likely to depart the Serie A giants for a cut-price fee before the new campaign gets underway.
Daniel Farke’s side are in desperate need of an addition at the top of the pitch, and they could be about to add Taremi to their ranks imminently.

Taremi to make final decision ‘in days’ as Leeds battle Fulham
Leeds have been rivalled by Fulham in their interest in Taremi, and it has become increasingly clear that a move to the Premier League will be the likely outcome for the Iranian.
He has already turned down the opportunity to move to Brazil, and the cogs could be set in motion for his next move at any time now.
- Taremi hit 91 goals for Porto across four years
- However, he struggled at Inter last year, scoring just three in all competitions
- Last season was his first campaign in one of Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues
The 33-year-old could be about to provide the Whites with the solution to their striker concerns, as his decision regarding his new club is expected to be made “in days,” according to the print edition of La Gazzetta Dello Sport (11 August, pg. 2).
The links between Taremi and a move to Elland Road have refused to go away, and it now appears to be a straight shootout between the West Yorkshire outfit and their London counterparts as to who will secure his signature.

Taremi is not what Farke needs
Leeds’ need for a striker stems from the concerns surrounding Joel Piroe’s ability to adapt to the Premier League, but also the lack of depth that they currently have.
Mateo Joseph has finally sealed an exit, and that leaves Lukas Nmecha (who is primarily a winger) and Patrick Bamford (who is also likely to leave) as the only senior options to support Piroe.
Stats | Piroe (Championship) | Nmecha (Bundesliga) | Bamford (Championship) | Taremi (Serie A) |
Apps | 46 | 19 | 17 | 26 |
Goals | 19 | 3 | – | 1 |
Assists | 7 | – | – | 2 |
As a result, the Whites need to add at least one frontman who is proven at the top level, and unfortunately, Taremi doesn’t fall into that bracket.
He has been prolific in the Portuguese league in the past, but found the back of the net just once in Serie A last term.
Injury issues limited him to just seven starts for I Nerrazzurri, and at 33, there will be huge concerns that those issues could continue to rear their head for the remainder of his career.
Farke is crying out for greater attacking depth within his squad, but Taremi is simply not what is needed.
