Leeds on verge of winning race to sign attacker after agreeing deal with PL club – report

Leeds United are on the verge of beating Torino in the race to sign Ian Poveda from Manchester City, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that Leeds have agreed a deal with the Premier League giants and are now close to landing the 19-year-old attacker.

Leeds have been in the market for a new winger after Jack Clarke was recalled from his loan spell at Elland Road by Tottenham and although Poveda has only made one senior appearance in his career to date, Marcelo Bielsa may use him in his first-team squad.

Leeds’ squad depth is barely existant at the moment with the majority of players on the bench at QPR on Saturday being those who’ve been regulars for the Under-23s this term.

Although signing a new striker is the Whites’ priority, they still need to think about other areas of the squad.

Poveda can play on both wings or in an attacking midfield role so his versatility could come in handy in the second half of the campaign.

Leeds are bound to be hit with more injury issues and more suspensions, so having him around could be a good idea.

However fans will not be truly happy until a proven striker comes in and helps the Whites score the goals they need to seal automatic promotion.

In other Leeds United news, Leeds have already made one addition to their first-team squad.
