YEP detail what source close to Juan Foyth has said about Leeds loan speculation

The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported that Leeds United are not set to sign defender Juan Foyth on loan from Tottenham.

Argentine news outlet Ole had claimed earlier on Thursday that Foyth, 22, would join Leeds on a season-long loan in August after dropping down the pecking order at Tottenham since Jose Mourinho took charge.

However the YEP’s Graham Smyth has rubbished the South American rumours, saying that a source close to Foyth told the newspaper that they are unaware of any interest from Leeds and that no decisions will be made on the defender’s future until Spurs’ season is over.

Ben White’s loan deal at Elland Road expires in the summer and Marcelo Bielsa will more than likely have to find himself a replacement for the impressive Brighton ace.

Gaetano Berardi’s contract is also set to expire so Liam Cooper could be left as the only natural centre-back in Bielsa’s senior squad by the time this season ends.

Foyth might have been a decent option for Leeds.

Bielsa would no doubt be keen on adding an Argentine to his squad and a ball-playing defender like Foyth could fit in well with the United boss’ tactics.

Foyth’s not really impressed that much in North London but his first-team opportunities have been few and far between with just 32 first-team appearances – 16 in the Premier League – in three years.

It could be that the Argentina international will benefit from a step down from a top-six club. One player that comes to mind is Jonny Evans, who failed to impress at Manchester United, moved to West Brom and shone there and is now back in the top-six with Leicester, playing a key role in their defence.

Maybe Foyth will benefit in a similar way and Bielsa is only going to improve him.

However, the YEP’s update has poured cold water on this speculation and it seems unlikely Foyth will head to Elland Road.
