Leeds new goalkeeper: Sunday update on bid for Meslier replacement

Leeds United are unlikely to bid for a new goalkeeper to replace Illan Meslier, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The newspaper reported on 19 January that the Whites fear dropping the Frenchman could have more of a negative impact than a positive one.

Unless the 24-year-old’s situation in between the sticks at Elland Road worsens, it appears unlikely that the market will be scoured for a replacement.

The keeper may benefit from having the trust of Daniel Farke although the angry reaction of his teammates against Hull City could represent a cause for concern.

Leeds United unlikely to sign Illan Meslier replacement

There is no doubt that the shot-stopper has had a tough time this season, with his mistake against the Tigers arguably being the tip of the iceberg.

Patience has almost run out for the ex-Lorient man after also making a detrimental error against promotion rival Sunderland earlier in the season.

For a side in the race for a top-two finish in the Championship, these sorts of moments have to be few and far between and they haven’t been for Meslier.

As a result, it would be fair if Farke and Co. utilised the winter transfer window to assess their options and potentially bring a new keeper in.

It feels unlikely that either Karl Darlow or Alex Cairns are ever going to be trusted as the number one in LS11 so a signing could make sense.

Even so, it appears that the Whites’ manager is backing the Frenchman as his number one which may prove to be a massive boost to his confidence which could be just what he needs right now.
