Leeds ‘make progress to sign new goalkeeper’ as Meslier exit update drops

Leeds United are looking to sign a goalkeeper this summer to potentially replace Illan Meslier.

Daniel Farke’s men have so far managed to strengthen their defence, but the Peacocks are looking to shift their focus towards other areas of the pitch.

Supporters will be worried about Leeds’ lack of signings in the attacking third of the pitch, with just weeks to go before the start of the season.

The Elland Road faithful will also be concerned by the fact that the Whites have yet to make much progress toward signing a replacement for Meslier, but that could all soon change.

Meslier interest picking up as progress is made on new goalkeeper

Towards the end of last season, Meslier lost his place to Karl Darlow.

It has been no secret that the 49ers have been looking for a new number one this summer, which could spell the end for Meslier’s time at Elland Road.

According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth via X (18 July), interest in Meslier is starting to pick up.

The interest is not said to be firm yet, but with Leeds also making progress in their search for a new keeper, the writing could be on the wall for the Frenchman.

The Peacocks have been linked with moves for Angus Gunn and Aaron Ramsdale so far this summer, though it remains to be seen who the West Yorkshire club will sign as a replacement for Meslier.

Smyth also offered an update on Farke’s potential move for German midfielder Anton Stach, with the Whites still working on the move.

49ers playing a risky game in goalkeeper hunt

The 49ers must accelerate their plans to sign a goalkeeper this summer or risk being stuck with Darlow and Meslier for the start of the season.

The Peacocks can’t afford for the Frenchman to make the mistakes he made last season.

Leeds must start the season on the front foot, or they will be stuck playing catch-up in a league that can be punishing for newcomers.
