Leeds make move to sign Anthony Dennis in ‘big-money’ transfer

Leeds United are working towards strengthening their squad in the summer despite Premier League promotion still being uncertain.

Daniel Farke and Co are facing a nervy end to the promotion race as they sit level on points with Sheffield United at the top of the Championship table with 10 games left to play.

With third-placed Burnley only two points behind, Leeds risk missing out on automatic promotion after losing 1-0 against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Sunday, 9 March.

However, that has not stopped the Elland Road outfit from planning ahead for next season, with details of their interest in Anthony Dennis now coming to light.

Leeds interest in Dennis confirmed by agents

Leeds are interested in signing Dennis from Goztepe this summer, according to Africafoot.

The news outlet reported via their website on Saturday (8 March) that the midfielder has been earmarked for a big-money transfer after attracting interest from the Whites, as well as Stuttgart.

Goztepe, for their part, are prepared to cash in on the Nigerian for £4.2million (€5m)amid growing interest in him.

This comes after Elite Project Group, the agency handling Dennis’ profile, confirmed to the aforementioned source that Leeds made an approach about signing him last week.

However, Stuttgart are the ones showing the ‘greatest’ amount of interest as things stand as they race to sign the 20-year-old heats up.

Goztepe, meanwhile, are reluctant to commit to any deals at this moment as they wait for more offers from elsewhere.

Dennis to strengthen Farke’s midfield at Elland Road

Dennis is comfortable operating as a deep-lying midfielder or a box-to-box runner, making him an attractive option for Farke.

His price tag also makes him an attainable target for Leeds whether or not they attain promotion this season.

However, it is worth noting that the Elland Road outfit stacked in midfield as things stand, with Ilia Gruev, Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell also fighting for two spots.

Rothwell, though, will return to Bournemouth when his loan deal runs out at the end of the season.

It would also not be a surprise if Tanaka is the subject of heavy interest this summer.
