Leeds make eleventh-hour approach to sign Brandon Thomas-Asante amid £5m West Brom update
Leeds United have made a late approach to West Bromwich Albion for forward Brandon Thomas-Asante, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported (1 September) that the Whites have approached the Baggies with an qnuiry for Thomas-Asante after Stoke City had a £2million offer rejected by Carlos Corberan’s side.
The Mail also reported (1 September) that West Brom values the ex-Salford ace at £5million, but “no club” has come close to the asking price.
Likely?
Leeds have no chance of getting this deal done unless they meet the Baggies’ asking price.
West Brom themselves will be eager to bring in more players on deadline day, as they so often do, but will be keen to retain Thomas-Asante.
Leeds may be expecting to lose at least one forward player themselves before the window shuts, with Calcio Mercato reporting (1 September) that Willy Gnonto is close to a move back to the Premier League with Everton.

Whites fans are no strangers to Thomas-Asante’s talents, with the 24-year-old getting the opening goal in their Championship draw on 18 August, but they will hope he makes the switch to Yorkshire.
Stoke City tested the waters of a deal but was swiftly rejected after coming well short of West Brom’s valuation. With nine goals in all competitions last season at the Hawthorns, Thomas-Asante could be swiftly rising up the divisions if he moves to Leeds and they achieve an expected promotion.
However, the money needs to be put now first, and the Baggies will feel no pressure to sell him off after just one season.
In other Leeds United news, a Whites player has bid farewell to the club after deciding between two other Championship clubs.
