Leeds make contact for Hirving Lozano transfer, would be Championship deal of year

Leeds United are among several English clubs who have spoken to the entourage of Mexican international Hirving Lozano over a move, although he is now expected to join LAFC, according to W Deportes.

The Mexican radio station and news outlet have claimed that as well as receiving an offer from Saudi Arabia, a number of English clubs are still watching Lozano, including Leeds and Everton, while Newcastle have dropped out of the race.

The report claims that the Mexican’s main priority is to continue with the national team, and fears a move to the MLS may rule him out of contention, although advanced talks with LAFC will reach a conclusion in the coming days as a final decision will be made.

It has been shared that Lozano is tempted by the family theme, and possible life of luxury and comfort that would come with a move to Los Angeles, despite having four offers on the table – one of which is assumed to be from Leeds.

Lozano would be a ridiculously good signing for Leeds, as proved by the Premier League (Everton) and even Champions League (Newcastle) interest in securing his signature.

The winger won Serie A with Napoli last season and contributed heavily, making 32 appearances in the league for the Italian side, which was his joint-most since arriving in Italy from PSV.

To bring a major title winner to the Championship would be a huge boost to a Leeds squad that seems to be constantly losing their star players. Lozano would provide an edge over the vast majority of clubs at this level.

With current Leeds wingers Willy Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville and Jack Harrison all being linked to moves away, Lozano would be a more than adequate replacement.

The Mexican international, who has played in two World Cups, was once a much-coveted asset, with interest from Manchester United reported as recently as 2022 [The Sun], is still only 27 and able to provide multiple years of high-level service to whichever club he joins.

While it appears he is edging towards a move closer to home, the fact that an offer from Leeds remains on the table means a deal is always possible, with a decision expected to be made soon.

This would be the Championship transfer of year, but it may prove too good to be true in the end.
