Leeds make approach to sign Cameron Archer, Southampton respond

Leeds United have made a bid to sign Southampton striker Cameron Archer on loan, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT journalist reported via his personal X account (30 January) that the Saints have already rejected the proposal.

The striker made his move to St Mary’s in the 2024/25 summer transfer window and has played 25 games across all competitions for the Saints this season.

“Southampton have rejected an approach from Leeds United to sign Cameron Archer on loan,” Crook wrote.

Leeds United and Daniel Farke need a new striker before 3 February

While Leeds may find themselves at the top of the Championship table, it feels like a lot more could come from their number nines.

Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe have been the most commonly chosen strikers to lead Daniel Farke’s attacking line.

However, the fact that the Whites are often relying upon their wingers such as Manor Solomon and Dan James to pick up the pieces and make the difference in games doesn’t bode all that well.

If the West Yorkshire outfit does earn promotion to the Premier League this season there will have to be a fair few changes made to their ranks in order for them to be competitive.

The fact that Archer has played 25 games across all competitions this season and has scored five goals shows how impressive of a coup he’d be for Leeds.

Only time will tell if Leeds will go back in for another move but if they do manage to secure his services, it could guarantee them promotion.

In other Leeds United, it’s a done deal as Leeds agree a fee for a new goalkeeper.
