Leeds loanee to have temp contract terminated early, next move lined up – Graham Smyth

Leeds United winger Jordan Stevens will have his loan deal at Swindon Town terminated early, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth.

Stevens, 20, has made 15 appearances in all competitions since joining the League One club on what was initially meant to be a season-long loan deal in September.

However, the Leeds loanee has played just two of Swindon’s last five League One fixtures and is now set to return to Elland Road.

But, according to Smyth, Stevens is unlikely to be without a temporary club for long as a switch to Bradford City is now on the cards.

Worrying drop or clever move?

Stevens has started just six League One games at Swindon, playing mainly as a right-sided winger but also a right-back for the struggling 23rd-placed side.

Swindon’s awful run of form has led to a change of management in the last couple of months and that is likely to have played a role in Stevens’ lack of game-time.

But him moving from a struggling League One to a struggling League Two side could be seen as worrying.

Bradford have shown a good run of form as of late but remain 19th in the fourth-tier.

You would assume that if Stevens can get on the bench regularly for Leeds in the Championship and play a role at League One with Swindon, he would be a key player for a team in the doldrums in League Two.

A move to Valley Parade would, therefore, lead to more game-time and an increased chance to develop but it also comes with the cost of playing for a team that is technically worse in a league that is also worse.

Stevens will probably just want to play, more than anything else.

Let’s see how he gets on at Bradford. Him being slightly closer to home should also help the former Forest Green attacker’s development.
