Leeds loanee deal on verge of termination, new club lined up – Sky Sports
Versatile Leeds United youngster Robbie Gotts is on the verge of having his loan deal at Lincoln City terminated, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster’s Transfer Centre reported on Friday [10:05am] that Gotts, 21, is now close to joining Salford City on loan for the rest of the campaign.
Gotts initially joined League One high-flyers Lincoln on a season-long basis in October but has since made just four starts in the third-tier.
Fresh start for under-used Gotts
Gotts has had a frustrating year and a half.
Although he is still a young player and one that wasn’t really first-team material at Leeds last season, it must have been tough for him to sit on the bench 18 times in the Championship before being handed a league debut by Marcelo Bielsa.
The 21-year-old, who can play as a right-back, right-winger or a central midfielder, was surely hoping to play a lot of football at League One side Lincoln but instead, he’s found himself a bench-warmer yet again.
Gotts has played 12 times in all competitions and on Tuesday night he bagged his first senior goal as the Imps beat Accrington 4-0 in the EFL Trophy.
However, a step down to a team like Salford could be more beneficial towards a player who simply needs more game-time.
Salford are doing well in League Two.
Richie Wellens’ side are fifth and just three points shy of leaders Carlisle so it’s not as though Gotts will be joining a team who are losing every week.
Salford will surely hand him more chances than Lincoln did and although he’s going to be playing at a lower level, he’ll at least be playing and that is the most important thing about this deal.
In other Leeds United news, this 22-year-old attacker has been offered to a new club.
