Leeds line up six new signings in Red Bull-backed transfer blitz

Leeds United could have a vastly different squad next season if they secure Premier League promotion.

The Whites have regained their place at the summit of the Championship and are in pole position to return to the top flight with four matches left to play.

Daniel Farke will recognise the need for severe improvement if they are promoted, otherwise they could suffer a similar fate to the bottom three this season.

Red Bull to help Leeds transfer plans

Red Bull may be minority shareholders at Leeds but they could have a major impact on the Peacocks’ business in the summer.

Farke’s side have to drastically improve the squad if they get back into the top tier after a two-year absence and could sign up to six players, according to Graeme Bailey.

Speaking to Leeds United News (17 April), he said: “Their current squad has a number of areas that need addressing: left-back, no.10, a striker and goalkeeper are the big ones, but I think we see half-a-dozen players come in.

“They will also be leaning on Red Bull for their European knowledge, don’t underestimate that could be a big help to them this summer.”

Leeds need to get transfer plans right

The calibre of signings that the Whites make could be the difference between remaining in the top flight or coming straight back down.

The performance of Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich Town this season has shown the gap between the two divisions is at an all-time high and survival will not be easy.

Leeds are in a great position.

Leeds have to be active in the summer and they have to make sure that they buy the right quality rather than stockpiling average players.

Using their Red Bull connections make sense given that the likes of RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg often produce top-quality players such as Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane and Dominik Szoboszlai.

However, the Elland Road outfit must be careful to not rely on their minority shareholders too much as they may sign another dud like Rasmus Kristensen, who featured in just one season for the club and was sold at a loss earlier this week.

It will be a fine balance for the 49ers, to get the business right but if they can pull it off, they could secure Leeds’ status amongst the elite for the foreseeable future.

Focus right now must be on securing promotion, as it is not mathematically certain yet but as soon as it is, planning must be accelerated.
