Leeds ‘leave Marseille in tears’ after Igor Paixão transfer update

Leeds are interested in signing Brazilian attacker Igor Paixão, but they face competition for his signature.

Manor Solomon looks unlikely to return to Leeds, which has sparked interest in another winger, and Paixão would be an exciting signing.

Leeds need more attacking firepower, and the Brazilian would add a lot of goal threat from wide areas, but other clubs are interested.

Marseille are keen on Paixão. However, it now appears that the Whites have the advantage in the race to sign the 25-year-old.

Leeds have the edge over Marseille for Paixão

Leeds are keen on bringing Paixão to the Premier League, and competing in England’s top-flight will now give them an edge over Marseille in the race.

It has been reported by French outlet Foot 01 (July 17) that Marseille are in “tears” over Paixão, as Leeds now have the upper hand.

Feyenoord want a fee north of £25million, which Marseille would struggle to pay, but Leeds can reportedly afford it, and the lure of playing in the Premier League also means the winger could be tempted by a switch to Elland Road.

Despite Marseille “pushing hard” for a move in recent days, it now appears that if Leeds formalise their interest in Paixão, they can land the Brazilian, as his agents prepare for a meeting to listen to the offer from the Whites this weekend.

Paixão can add goal threat for Leeds

Even if Paixão joins, Leeds will still need to add a striker to their squad, but the Feyenoord star can take a lot of the goalscoring burden in the attack.

The attacker recorded a simply outstanding season in the Eredivisie, scoring 18 goals and providing 19 assists in all competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.

Although Leeds do have options on the wings, including Willy Gnonto and Dan James, extra quality will be welcomed, and Paixão can also play on both sides.

If Leeds do secure the winger, they will need to ensure that they also sign a striker to play alongside him, while a new goalkeeper should also be prioritised.

Both signings will have to be hits if Leeds are to stay up, but Paixão can also bring a lot of goals to the team as they prepare to make the step up to the top flight.
