Leeds last man standing to sign Adam Armstrong after Middlesbrough twist

Leeds United have maintained interest in Adam Armstrong as a move to Middlesbrough looks to be off the table, according to Kyle Newbould.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported on 3 February that the Whites are interested in signing the Southampton ace before the window slams shut.

Daniel Farke’s side could be the last side in the race to sign the 27-year-old after Boro were priced out of a move by the Saints’ loan demands.

Instead, Michael Carrick and Co. are working on a move to sign Kelechi Iheanacho instead which could leave Leeds in the clear.

Leeds United still in the race to sign Adam Armstrong

The Elland Road club haven’t been shy in their pursuit of a striker throughout the winter window but are yet to bring anyone in.

This has seen the likes of Cameron Archer linked with a move to LS11 but it could be another forward from Southampton that could be on their way in.

Armstrong has plenty of pedigree in the Championship and has scored goals whenever he has been given the chance.

The ex-Newcastle United prospect has scored 68 goals across his last three stints in the second tier, an excellent and attractive output for Farke’s side.

He has never been able to reflect this ability in the Premier League which could point towards him wanting to make a return to the division he has always thrived in.

It will be a late move at Elland Road if the Englishman is to come in but it could prove to be great in helping Farke’s side to promotion this campaign.
