Leeds in pole position to seal Christantus Uche transfer as release clause promise emerges

Leeds United appear set to steal a march on their rivals for the signing of Getafe playmaker Christantus Uche.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is in demand this summer, with a host of clubs across Europe interested in the Nigerian international.

Daniel Farke knows his side must strengthen in attack if Leeds are to challenge in the Premier League next season.

After details of his release clause at Getafe, it seems that the Elland Road club are the frontrunners to sign Uche.

Leeds United favourites to sign Getafe’s Uche

Leeds have already identified targets in attack as they aim to boost their goal threat in the top flight next season.

The Yorkshire club have already lost Manor Solomon after his season-long loan from Tottenham came to an end, but he could return permanently.

Leeds are keen on Uche and are in pole position to sign him alongside Brentford, according to SER journalist Jose David Palacio (2 June).

He states that the 22-year-old has fallen in love with Europe and wishes to depart the La Liga club.

The Premier League duo are said to be bidding the strongest, while there is also interest from Italy and France.

Uche reportedly has a £21million release clause, but Getafe have promised to lower that to reach an agreement.

That agreement will not be immediate, however, as negotiations must first take place.

Leeds must prioritise attack in the transfer window

While the Yorkshire club possess solid options in attack, they will need upgrades to compete at the top table.

Joel Piroe bagged 19 goals to finish the season as the Championship’s top scorer, one more than Norwich City’s Borja Sainz and Burnley’s Josh Brownhill.

However, there are doubts over whether he can perform in the Premier League, with Leeds expected to be in a relegation scrap.

Furthermore, the uncertainty over the likes of Solomon means the Yorkshire club will miss a creative spark, which Uche can provide.

While Leeds supporters will likely know little about Uche, he has produced promising numbers in Spain and would be a welcome addition.
