Leeds in hunt to sign Scottish centre-forward from Yorkshire club – report

Leeds United are among a number of clubs who are in pursuit of Hull City centre-forward James Scott, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet reports that Everton are currently in pole position to sign the 19-year-old striker while Leeds, Crystal Palace and Newcastle are also said to be keen.

Hull signed Scott from Motherwell for £1.5million in January but suffered what was thought to be a season-ending ankle injury before getting to make his debut for the Yorkshire club.

However, the extended season meant that Scott eventually got his chance after football returned in June and went on to score one goal in seven Championship appearances as Hull were relegated to League One.

The Humberside club are said to be keen on keeping hold of the Scotland Under-21 international but that might not be enough to stop Premier League clubs like Leeds being able to turn the player’s head.

Leeds have cracked on with signing new young players this summer.

Dani van den Heuvel became the latest addition earlier this week, joining the likes of Cody Drameh, Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Allen arriving at Thorp Arch to bolster the numbers in the Under-23s and Under-18s sides.

Scott has plenty of senior experience to his name having made 42 total appearances for Motherwell before joining Hull in January.

And while Leeds need a new striker for their first-team, we don’t see Scott being the one if they do manage to complete a deal for him.

Hull manager Grant McCann, as quoted by the Hull Daily Mail, has said that Scott is “going to be a real gem”.

Time will tell whether McCann is right but if the fee is low, we don’t see why it would harm Leeds in having a go at landing another promising young attacker.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made a bid to sign this 23-year-old English forward.
