Leeds in hunt to sign North-West club forward after six-figure PL switch falls through – report

Leeds United are interested in signing young Blackpool forward Anthony Weston but face competition from Rangers and Everton, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the 16-year-old had a £250,000 switch to Southampton fall through, leaving Everton in pole position to land his signature.

However it is understood that Rangers are quietly confident of striking an agreement for Weston, who made his senior debut for Blackpool in January, while Leeds are also in the hunt for a deal.

Weston is one of the higest-rated prospects at North-West club Blackpool and, as reported on their official website, he is a multiple-winner of academy player of the year awards.

It does seem as though the teenager’s time at Bloomfield Road could be coming to an end soon though with teams from across the United Kingdom interested in signing him.

Leeds are always on the look-out for young, up-and-coming talent across the country and across Europe.

It seems that Weston is the latest young striker to catch the eye of Victor Orta and his scouting network so it remains to be seen how the Whites fare when battling against Premier League and Scottish Premiership clubs in the transfer market.

The Sun reports that a bidding war could wage for Weston and Leeds might stand a better chance of winning that if they secure promotion to the Premier League.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been urged to sign this 22-year-old player.
