Leeds in hunt to sign Mohamed Amoura as ‘dramatic twist’ lined up ahead of transfer deadline

Leeds have been linked with a last-ditch move to sign Wolfsburg striker Mohamed Amoura.

With the winter transfer window closing at 7pm on Monday, Daniel Farke is lining up late additions to his attack to help keep the Whites in the Premier League.

Leeds are bidding to sign Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. However, they have so far failed to match the Premier League basement boys’ valuation for the Norway international.

The Yorkshire club’s failure to make a breakthrough in talks for Strand Larsen has seemingly led to them eyeing up a last-ditch move for Amoura.

However, a deal for the Algeria international looks to be complicated.

Leeds deal for Mohamed Amoura complicated as transfer deadline looms

According to France Football journalist Nabil Djellit, Leeds have a long-standing interest in Amoura.

The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and supplied two assists in 18 appearances across all competitions for Wolfsburg this season.

He also played four times for Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations this winter, but failed to score as the Desert Foxes were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Mohamed Amoura factfile:

Due to his importance to Wolfsburg this term, a late deal for Leeds this winter is deemed unlikely.

Djellit doesn’t completely rule out a move, claiming that a “dramatic twist” could yet see the former FC Lugano striker head to Elland Road.

However, Leeds could well be barking up the wrong tree if they see Amoura as a realistic addition to their squad for the second half of the Premier League campaign.

Why Amoura is worth the hassle for Leeds

It clearly won’t be an easy operation for Leeds to seal a late deal for Amoura.

He’s massively important for Wolfsburg, scoring 25 per cent of their Bundesliga goals this season.

Due to us now being at a late stage in the winter transfer window, the German club won’t have time to replace Amoura, which could be the biggest deal-breaker for Leeds.

However, if the Whites are willing to offer around £40million for Strand Larsen, who has scored just one league goal all season for Wolves, why can’t they do the same with Amoura?

According to transfermarkt, the ex-Union Saint-Gilloise striker has a market value of £27.7million.

If they’re able to sign him for that much, they’ll sign a striker who’s had a much better season than Strand Larsen, in a major European league, for a fraction of the price.
