Leeds United are in the hunt to sign young Arsenal goalkeeper James Hillson with the Premier League giants expected to loan him out next season, according to ESPN’s transfer blog.
The broadcaster claims that Hillson, 19, has been handed a new contract by the Gunners as his previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season.
However Arsenal have tied the youngster down to fresh terms as he is clearly a highly-rated prospect at the Emirates with Mikel Arteta set to include him in first-team training this week.
It is not the only taste of first-team football that Arsenal want Hillson to have with him likely to move out on loan once the transfer window re-opens and clubs start to make plans for the 2020/21 campaign.
Leeds have reportedly expressed an interest in the shot-stopper but so have Portsmouth, Sunderland, Luton and Barnsley.
Marcelo Bielsa might need to add a new goalkeeper or two to his squad ahead of next season.
Kiko Casilla’s future is likely to be in doubt due to the racism ban he is currently serving and the fact his contract expires next summer.
Illan Meslier is only on loan at Elland Road from Lorient so that would take a new agreement for the Whites to retain the Frenchman.
Elia Caprile is next up in the goalkeeper pecking order after the young Italian arrived from Chievo in January but he is yet to make a senior appearance for Leeds.
Could Hillson be the next young shot-stopper who the Whites want to develop?
If so, they should try to work an option-to-buy clause into any loan agreement with Arsenal.
In other Leeds United news, this young forward is the perfect project for Bielsa.
