Leeds in hunt to sign 9-goal centre-forward also wanted by Manchester City – report
Leeds United are one of a number of teams who are in pursuit of NEC Nijmegen striker Ole Romeny, according to Voetbal International.
The Dutch news outlet claims that the 20-year-old has come into the spotlight after a strong season in the Netherlands’ second-tier which saw him score nine goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.
Leeds are now said to be in the hunt to sign the Netherlands Under-20 international but completing a deal might be difficult based on the other teams said to be keen on him.
It is understood that Manchester City and Juventus are two of the clubs interested in Romney while Norwich, Brentford, Bologna, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Real Sociedad are also mentioned.
It could be difficult for Leeds to strike a deal for Romeny.
The Whites are a massive club but let’s face it, they are not going to be able to compete with the likes of Man City and Juventus is they are serious in their pursuit of the Dutch centre-forward.
It remains to be seen if Leeds will even need a new striker in the summer too.
Patrick Bamford is bound to stay at Elland Road next season if the club is in the Premier League or not and Jean-Kevin Augustin could still be snapped up permanently from RB Leipzig.
Romeny seems like a decent young striker based on the fact that Man City and Juventus want him, so maybe he is being looked at with the view to him becoming third-choice or to be instantly loaned out elsewhere.
He has averaged more goals per 90 minutes of league football than Bamford has this season despite having a lower xG of 0.24 to Bamford’s 0.64 [WyScout]. Bamford’s missed a lot of chances whereas Romeny has proven clinical despite being a young player.
However we are not going to hold our breath on this one because of the level of interest in the Dutchman.
In other Leeds United news, fans are fuming with this senior player after an “inexcusable” stat was revealed on Twitter.
