Leeds in hunt to sign £22.7m-rated striker ready to ditch Euro title-winners – report

Leeds United have joined Newcastle United and Wolves in the hunt to sign Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis, according to HLN.

The Belgian newspaper claims that Dennis, 22, is eager to move away from Brugge in order to head to one of Europe’s top leagues amid interest from the Premier League and Bundesliga.

Dennis scored nine goals, supplied two assists and earned his first caps for Nigeria in the 2019/20 season as Club Brugge were awarded the Belgian league title when the coronavirus pandemic brought the campaign to a halt.

Two of Dennis’ goals came in a shock 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League while another which is likely to have caught the eye of clubs in England.

Leeds are bound to need a new centre-forward as they embark on life in the Premier League with Patrick Bamford the only natural option in Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad.

Dennis can play out wide but is a striker by trade. However, it is understood that he has a big price-tag of up to £22.7million.

Can we see Leeds spending that much on a striker who had a number of injury issues last term and scored just nine goals in a title-winning side?

We expect a more frugal approach to this summer and that price-tag is likely on Dennis’ head to ward off interest from teams like Newcastle and Wolves, who have shown they’re not afraid to spend the big bucks.

We’d rather take see the club take their chances with Bamford than take a chance on the Nigerian.
