Leeds in contact over potential deal to sign 25-year-old free agent – report
Leeds United target Patrick Erras is now a free agent after reaching the end of his contract at Nurnberg, according to BILD.
The German newspaper claims that Nurnberg want to try and keep hold of the 25-year-old but the midfielder’s agent is trying to secure a new club for his client.
It is understood that Leeds and QPR are among a number of second-tier clubs in England and Germany who have been in contact over a potential deal for Erras, while Werder Bremen have also been linked with the defensive midfielder.
Erras made 23 appearances in all competitions in what was a disappointing season for Nurnberg this time out. He scored three goals and supplied one assist in the process while playing at centre-back at times, despite spending most of the campaign in his usual holding midfield role.
Leeds could definitely do with adding more depth to their central midfield options.
Kalvin Phillips is currently injured and set to miss the rest of the season and with Adam Forshaw also out, Marcelo Bielsa is likely to be forced to play centre-back Ben White in the midfield for the last three games.
Erras could be brought in to add a further layer of depth to the Leeds midfield but we would be a bit underwhelmed if he was brought in.
The German midfielder has just 19 Bundesliga appearances to his name in his career with the rest of his appearances coming in cups or lower leagues.
He was also in and out of the Nurnberg side this season as they finished one place above the relegation zone in the second-tier.
Would Leeds fans be happy if they signed a midfielder from a Championship club who had just about avoided relegation?
Erras is available as a free agent but we don’t see Bielsa handing out contracts to players who he doesn’t feel will improve his starting line-up.
In other Leeds United news, the club’s confirmed a new three-year deal for this defender.
