Leeds hours from Charlie Cresswell windfall - here's how much and how it can be spent
Leeds United can make good use of some welcome money being brought in through Charlie Cresswell.
The Whites sold Cresswell to Toulouse for a fee of around £3.8million two years ago.
That was a relatively modest fee, but understandable given he had made just 44 senior outings at that stage in his career.
Just 14 of those came for Leeds, but Daniel Farke's men are set to profit further thanks to Cresswell's success in France.
The 23-year-old is now on the verge of joining Ligue 1 side Rennes, with Leeds in line for a cash boost thanks to a sell-on clause in his contract.
The exact amount heading Leeds' ways is now clearer, and it can instantly go back straight into the squad.
How much will Leeds land from Charlie Cresswell transfer?
As per Foot Mercato, Cresswell could be just hours away from joining Rennes.
The French side are said to have agreed to pay a "huge" €28million (£24m) sum for the defender.
Leeds are in line for a 15-per-cent cut of that, which is around £3.6m. That is almost the exact amount United sold him for in the first place.
It means the Whites have landed £7.4m for an academy player who barely featured for them - very good business indeed.
And that money could now come into good use.
Where can the latest Cresswell money be spent?
Of course, Cresswell would be a first-team regular for Leeds in a different world.
Full credit to the former England Under-21s defender, though, for really pushing on overseas.
As for Leeds, they now have some welcome money to play with in this summer's transfer window.
£3.6m can be considered pennies in the current market - and it is in terms of spending it on one player.
But when it comes to haggling over a fee for a player, that sum could make all the difference.
Leo Scienza, Zion Suzuki and Shea Charles are just some of the names Leeds are said to be in talks with.
If in competition with other teams for any of those names, as expected, then throwing an extra few million on the table could get a deal done.
It is great to see Cresswell going from strength to strength elsewhere, all while Leeds can quite literally profit in the process.
