Leeds hit transfer complications yet again over deal to sign winger – Telegraph journalist

Leeds United have seen their bid to sign Leicester City winger Demarai Gray hit a snag, according to Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath.

Earlier this week, McGrath reported that Leeds were set to step up their pursuit of the 24-year-old after Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance failed a medical ahead of a move to Elland Road.

However, there are now complications in a deal to sign Gray, which suggests that the former Birmingham attacker is not going to join the Whites before the transfer window closes.

Instead, McGrath has reported via his personal Twitter account that Leeds are “buying” Brazilian winger Raphinha from Ligue 1 leaders Rennes.

This is probably going to be music to the ears of a lot of Leeds fans.

After McGrath’s initial report about Gray, there were plenty of fans who took to Twitter to voice their displeasure about a potential move for the Leicester outcast, with one saying that it would be an “underwhelming” move for the Yorkshire giants.

Thankfully for those fans, they probably won’t see Gray in a Leeds shirt any time soon with a deal reportedly progressing for Raphinha.

The Sun has reported that the 23-year-old is jetting into the UK on deadline day ahead of completing a move worth up to £21million from Rennes.

The Brazilian has been a regular starter for Rennes in Ligue 1, helping them qualify for the Champions League last season and playing a key role in them currently sitting top of the French league with two assists in five matches.

Gray has barely played for Leicester in the last year so if one of them is going to meet Marcelo Bielsa’s high fitness standards first, it’s going to be Raphinha.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could make a U-turn over this midfielder.
