Leeds get answer on cash windfall in fresh Max Wober update from Germany

Leeds United still have an opportunity for a cash injection in the form of Max Wober.

The 49ers are up against financial constraints in the January window, and have to carefully go about their business.

Leeds announced the signing of Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton recently, but the loan conditions of the agreement once again suggest that the Whites are stretched for making permanent deals for players.

Daniel Farke would still like a couple more players to aid his side in a push for Premier League survival, with Leeds currently sitting 16th in the table.

Wober is currently on loan in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen, and Farke’s wish for new additions could be helped if the Whites were to sell their loanee Wober.

Werder Bremen make stance clear on Max Wober

Wober has failed to impress since coming to Elland Road on a multi-million-pound deal from Salzburg back in 2023, as the Whites decided to loan him out for the season to Werder Bremen this summer.

Leeds included a £3.5million buy option in Wober’s deal, which at the time looked likely to be triggered at the end of this campaign, but things have taken a turn for the worse.

According to the German outlet BILD, Werder Bremen have questioned why they should even entertain the idea of purchasing Wober on a permanent deal.

This is because the centre-back has shown no signs of being able to get fit in Germany, with the Austrian currently sidelined with a hip injury until early February.

The update comes after his new issue was picked up at the start of this month, adding to the Bundesliga side’s frustration on why they loaned the Leeds man in the first place.

Their stance is clear, and they will not trigger Wober’s buy option, which leaves Leeds with one thing left to do considering he won’t get a chance in Farke’s squad.

Leeds should take risk with Wober recall

It’s clear to see that Leeds aren’t going to make money from Werder Bremen for Wober, so it should prompt the 49ers to make an instant recall.

Players can still pass medicals to sign for a new team even if they are not fully fit, and the fact that the 27-year-old is returning to fitness at the start of next month is a plus.

The hip injury is not believed to be a recurring one that’s been picked up this season, with other setbacks in the form of thigh and leg problems.

This means that the Whites could come to a mutual agreement to terminate Wober’s contract to try offload the defender to another side with the remaining time left in the window.
