Leeds fans will love what Roma legend Daniele De Rossi said about Artem Dovbyk
Leeds have been chasing Artem Dovbyk throughout the summer transfer window.
The Roma striker could be set for a quick exit from the capital, just a year after moving to Italy.
While Leeds are set to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, more firepower up top is needed.
Reports recently suggested that Leeds had sent scouts to watch Dovbyk during Roma’s 1-0 victory over Everton.
Now, Daniele De Rossi’s previous words about the striker may convince Daniel Farke to get the deal over the line.

De Rossi: Dovbyk is a great finisher
If Leeds are to stay in the Premier League, they need goals.
Gazzetta Dello Sport, 15 August reported that in addition to the Leeds and West Ham “sirens”, Dovbyk also now has interest from Besiktas.
Despite this, there has been scepticism among some of the Elland Road faithful about whether the Ukrainian international is able to score consistently in the English top-flight.
- Dovbyk was signed by De Rossi at Roma last summer
- The striker has found the net 17 times for Roma in 45 matches
However, Roma legend and past manager De Rossi’s past verdict on the striker may give the Elland Road faithful more confidence.
Talking on 17 August 2024, De Rossi told Football Italia: “He’s a great finisher, he knows how to link up with his teammate and tactically speaking, he’s very clean.”

Is Joel Piroe on his way out of Leeds?
Given the rumours surrounding Leeds’ attacking options, if Calvert-Lewin and Dovbyk do come in, Joel Piroe may find himself down the pecking order in terms of Farke’s preferred option up top.
If this happens, the attacker would no doubt feel hard done by, especially as he netted 19 Championship goals last season on the way to promotion.
There have been suggestions that Piroe could become a number 10 at Leeds this season. However, how quickly the 26-year-old can adapt to this role in the top-flight remains to be seen.
Realistically, Farke has to ensure Piroe is in the starting XI somewhere, as the German cannot let a player of that quality remain on the bench.
