Leeds face major PSR battle in January as they line up new signing for Daniel Farke

Daniel Farke’s Leeds side looked like a team lacking that final piece of quality in their 2-1 defeat against Spurs on Saturday.

After promotion back to the Premier League, Farke was disappointed by the lack of investment from the 49ers in the summer transfer window.

Paraag Marathe has been criticised for the poor signings made, as Leeds are already starting to show small holes on the pitch.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was signed on a free transfer in the summer, one of a few signings that raised eyebrows due to form and fitness.

Now, emerging reports suggest Leeds will face PSR struggles in January, as cheap reinforcements may be targeted to improve Farke‘s squad.

Leeds need to sell to buy in January as they re-target Piotr Zielinski

Leeds have now settled a PSR dispute with Everton, as they must now focus on their own spending restrictions for January.

According to an Italian publication, Interlive, due to PSR restrictions held against them, Leeds cannot spend any more than the player sales generated in January.

Due to this, Leeds are looking to sign Piotr Zielinski on a ‘free loan’ or ask him to terminate his contract at Inter – a player they have long-admired.

The update is worrying, as Leeds are not in a position to sell any of their best assets if they are to stay in the Premier League.

Though Zielinski would be a welcome addition, Leeds will have limited success in improving their squad if they can only target cheaper options.

If Marathe didn’t already have a huge task in front of him, then he certainly does now.

PSR update slices Leeds’ Premier League survival chances

After a controversial summer transfer window, the PSR update is the last thing that Leeds needed right now.

Farke has only managed in the Premier League in two seasons before the current campaign, and both times he was relegated.

Leeds in the Premier League so far

The German head coach is desperate to keep Leeds up but acknowledges the quality of competition in the Premier League and knows that he needs tools to work with.

Leeds may be forced into a corner in January and may just have to hope that all of their summer signings can live up to expectations and more as they continue in their quest for Premier League survival.

It has been a positive start, but the marathon has only just begun to stay up.
