Leeds United transfer news as Premier League domino twist emerges

Leeds United will have to wait for Premier League clubs to make transfer decisions in a domino effect development, with loans playing a part, according to journalist Beren Cross.

The journalist shared in a Q&A session via Leeds Live [3 August] that, due to their new status as a Championship club, Leeds have fallen further down the pecking order and will have to wait for other clubs to get moving before they can make their decisions.

Cross reports that loan deals will play a part in any transfer delays, as there will be Premier League players Leeds may want, that won’t become available until the middle of August at the earliest.

When asked in the Q&A [3 August, 16:02] whether Leeds will need to sell to buy this summer amid a delay in new signings, Cross replied: “At centre-back, there is no need to sell before they acquire someone. Loans will play a part in this delay too.

“There will be PL players Leeds may want to loan who are not made available until mid-August at the earliest. This is the problem Leeds have as a Championship club. They are further down the domino effect now and have to wait for others to get the pieces moving.”

Patience is a virtue

While it may be difficult for fans to see the club sit around and wait for others to make their moves, patience can often pay off with loan moves becoming available after previously not being on the cards, after Premier League clubs assess their squads following the start of the season.

The Premier League season kicks off on 11 August, and over the following weeks between then and the end of the transfer window, players and clubs will start to make moves as they realise players won’t be getting the playing time they initially thought they might.

These developments will open the door for clubs like Leeds to swoop, bringing high-level players in on loan, as was seen to be so successful last season. Burnley, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Sunderland all used Premier League loans to their advantage as they finished in the top six.

Amad Diallo, Cameron Archer, Taylor Harwood-Bellis (who has been linked to Leeds) and James McAttee all stood out on loan from top-division clubs, proving once again that patience is a virtue in the transfer window.
