Leeds continue Portuguese transfer mission as scout joins Euro giants attending match – report
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Leeds United dip their toes into the Portuguese transfer market in the summer based on their recent scouting activity.
According to a report by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Leeds had a scout attend Benfica’s 1-1 draw against Moreirense at Estadio da Luz on Monday night – but they weren’t the only club represented there.
It is understood that European giants Bayern Munich, Valencia and Lyon also had someone watch over the Liga NOS fixture while Manchester United, Burnley, Southampton, Bournemouth and Fulham also attended.
While Leeds have not been linked with any players from either Benfica or Moreirense recently, they have looked at players at the Estadio da Luz in the past with Chris Willock and Diogo Goncalves both reportedly featuring on the Whites’ radar previously.
But just because one of Victor Orta’s scouts watched Benfica play on Monday, doesn’t mean they were looking at anyone in particular.
Last week, STV journalist Ronnie Charters showed that Leeds had a scout in the stands for Braga’s Europa League showdown with Rangers.
Leeds do seem keen on scoping out talent in Portugal based on their current activity and it would not be a shock to see someone from Liga NOS get linked with Elland Road very soon.
There were some good players on display for Benfica this week.
Adel Taraabt is perhaps the best known to English football fans but it was Portugal international Pizzi who grabbed the headlines against Moreirense by scoring a stoppage-time equaliser for his 25th goal of the season.
In other Leeds United news, West Brom’s new injury blow and their midweek FA Cup clash could be a boost for the Whites.
