Leeds are monitoring Ainsley Maitland-Niles' transfer situation

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs and Leeds United are keeping an eye on developments, according to The Mirror.

The 23-year-old is currently on loan at West Brom from Arsenal, and his form for Albion has reportedly attracted interest from Crystal Palace and Monaco.

Southampton, Newcastle and Leicester all wanted Maitland-Niles in January [The Mirror] but he opted for The Hawthorns due to the promise he would play in midfield.

West Brom are likely to be relegated so Maitland-Niles will return to Arsenal, and it seems Leeds are waiting to see if he will become available for transfer once more.

Fits the Bielsa mould

Signing Maitland-Niles would be a very shrewd addition because he is a player who could help us challenge for Europe.

Since he joined West Brom they have lost only three games in nine, with Maitland-Niles performing brilliantly in wins against Chelsea and Southampton.

He is capable of competing against the best and his form last year earned him an England call-up, showing Gareth Southgate’s admiration.

Martin Keown is another who holds Maitland-Niles in high regard, calling the versatile star a “Rolls Royce” player [BT Sport via Football.London].

And it is his versatility that could really benefit us.

Marcelo Bielsa has used Dallas across the back four, in central midfield and on the wings this season [The Athletic]; Maitland-Niles can do the same so would come in handy during a long season.

Sam Allardyce praised his energy soon after he joined West Brom [Tribuna], and that is a vital characteristic for a Bielsa player.

It will be interesting to see how this one pans out, and whether Leeds will seek a loan move or a permanent option – it is certainly one to keep an eye on.
