Marcelo Bielsa will have a lot of money to spend on transfers if Leeds United win promotion to the Premier League, according to Doble Amarilla.
The Argentine news outlet claims that Leeds have approved a huge transfer war chest of between £54.2million and £72.3million in order for Bielsa to improve his squad for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
It is understood that two Argentine players have also emerged on Leeds’ radar amid them learning what sum of money they will have to spend next season.
Doble Amarilla claims that River Plate centre-back Lucas Martinez Quarta is one of them while another player who has been analysed is Racing Club attacker Matias Zaracho.
Leeds are likely to need a new centre-back or two for next season with Ben White’s loan ending and Gaetano Berardi’s contract set to expire.
Martinez Quarta, 24, is capped twice by Argentina and has been an ever-present for River Plate this season by appearing 20 times in all competitions.
Zaracho, 22, has scored five goals and assisted three in 22 appearances for Racing Club this term, mainly from his favoured central attacking midfield position.
It remains to be seen how these two players would perform in the Premier League but based on how well Bielsa has done with the players at Elland Road, it would be very interesting to see how he could get on with a couple of young Argentinean players.
As for the reported budget that Leeds will have to spend next season, we’re not sure whether or not that includes the cash that the club is committed to spending on making loan deals permanent.
Helder Costa will cost Leeds £15million in the summer while the Whites might be obliged to sign Jean-Kevin Augustin for £17million if they win promotion.
They would be significant chunks taken out of that budget but we doubt that Andrea Radrizzani would give Bielsa over £100million to spend.
