Leeds approach Man United over deal for player who’s been dropped by Ruben Amorim

Leeds United have reportedly contacted Manchester United over a possible deal for forward Joshua Zirkzee.

Leeds and Man United are fierce rivals who notoriously don’t do business, but there have been exceptions down the years.

Kobbie Mainoo has been linked with a move to Leeds in recent months, while Red Devils teammate Zirkzee is also liked by the Leeds hierarchy.

The Whites are in the market for new attackers, although Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s impressive turnaround in form at Leeds has eased the pressure to find one in January.

Leeds get swift response to Joshua Zirkzee enquiry

Zirkzee’s time at Old Trafford has not exactly gone to plan, although he did recently enjoy a run of starts in the side and scored in a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace.

However, he was once again dropped by Ruben Amorim for Monday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

According to Italian outlet Il Messaggero on Monday evening, Leeds have already approached Man United to see if a move for Zirkzee was possible.

Fellow Premier League relegation battlers West Ham United are also said to have enquired, but Zirkzee’s interest was not piqued by either club.

Given the difficulties of conducting business with Man United in the first place, that effectively rules out any sort of transfer.

This is why Leeds need to go all out for Ayase Ueda instead

Zirkzee will certainly not be the last attacking player linked with a move to Leeds prior to the January transfer window opening in a couple of weeks’ time.

There have been plenty of other names mentioned of late, one of those being Feyenoord star Ayase Ueda.

Leeds have been talked up as a perfect destination for Ueda, who has the joint-most league goals of any player in Europe this season alongside Harry Kane at Bayern Munich.

That will add a few extra million to his valuation, but he is certainly gettable for a Premier League club next month.

Calvert-Lewin’s goalscoring run means signing a new forward isn’t as imperative as it was a few weeks ago, but Leeds cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

And it is already quite clear that Zirkzee, for more than one reason, is not the man to go for.
