Kristoffer Klaesson transfer lined up with Leeds United exit ready

Leeds United look set to sell goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson on a permanent deal, according to Adam Pope.

The BBC Sport journalist has reported (6 July) that the 23-year-old is set to depart Elland Road to join Polish club Rakow Czestochowa.

The former Norway Under-21 international will move to the Ekstraklasa on a permanent deal from the Whites, Pope said.

Leeds United to sell Kristoffer Klaesson

The keeper has been far from a regular feature under Daniel Farke since he took over the Whites ahead of the last campaign.

Leeds signed the keeper from Vålerenga in 2021 but hasn’t featured many times for the first team at Elland Road in that spell.

Last season, he made just one Championship appearance in which he kept a clean sheet against Birmingham City in a 3-0 win – and that was only due to a suspension for Illan Meslier and injury to Karl Darlow.

Klaesson also featured once in the FA Cup against Peterborough United where, in similar circumstances, he shut out the opposition in a 3-0 victory.

The 23-year-old’s departure to Poland could leave the Whites light in the goalkeeper area, especially if Meslier leaves this summer.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Marseille and Monaco in recent weeks, which would leave Farke in desperate need of a new stopper to challenge for the number one spot with Darlow.

With Klaesson and Meslier potentially leaving, Leeds would have just Darlow as a senior goalkeeper option with Dani van den Heuvel as an academy option.

It is a move which makes sense for Klaesson but, for the Whites, waiting until an alternative to be found potentially would have been a wiser decision.
