Kristoffer Klaesson set to sign five-year contract at Leeds United
Leeds United are on the cusp of signing Valerenga goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson, according to Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning, the Italian reported that there has been a “total agreement” reached on personal terms with Klaesson, 20, set to sign a five-year deal at Elland Road.
Nettavisen journalist Stian Andre de Wahl had previously reported that Klaesson will leave quarantine on Thursday with a medical scheduled on Friday after a work permit was approved last week.
Deal all but done
By the end of the week, Leeds should have themselves a new goalkeeper and end Victor Orta’s search for a replacement for Kiko Casilla.
Earlier this month, Casilla left Elland Road to join Elche on loan for the season, a move that was met with a lot of relief.
The ex-Real Madrid shot-stopper had been a liability at Elland Road in more ways than one so the only issue we have with that loan deal is that it isn’t a permanent one.
It remains to be seen how Klaesson will perform upon replacing Casilla.
The 20-year-old is clearly nowhere near as experienced as the 34-year-old Spaniard but the Norwegian ace still has over 50 appearances at Valerenga and is on the verge of earning a debut senior cap.
Illan Meslier is going to be Leeds’ number one next season after impressing last term.
He’s 21-years-old, still has a mistake in him and is still some way off being the finished article.
It could help him a lot to know that there’s another young goalkeeper who isn’t far behind him in terms of experience is now breathing down his neck for the number one spot.
Klaesson will now become the third addition to the senior squad this summer, following Jack Harrison and Junior Firpo in making permanent moves to Elland Road.
Leeds have also been busy adding to their Under-23s with Amari Miller, Sean McGurk and Lewis Bate all arriving in West Yorkshire.
In other Leeds United news, Trevor Sinclair has been raving about an “excellent” central midfielder the Whites are in talks to sign.
