Kristensen exit done at Leeds United as ‘very surprising’ next club update emerges

Rasmus Kristensen’s future at Leeds United seems to have been decided upon as we edge closer to the end of the 2024/25 season.

The right-back was brought to Elland Road a couple of seasons ago in order to try and reinforce their defensive ranks but instead, he failed to live up to expectations.

However, ever since the West Yorkshire outfit were relegated from the top flight, the Dane chose to jump ship and seemingly hasn’t looked back.

And, with the summer transfer window now edging closer, a fresh update has been shared on Kristensen’s future with the Whites.

Frankfurt to be next destination for Kristensen

While rumours of the right-back making a permanent move to Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt have been rife all season, it now seems like that’s a formality.

The defender has been in decent form for the Germans this term and has finally started to live up to the potential he showed when he was at RB Salzburg.

However, with a return to Leeds almost certainly not on the cards due to the fractured relationship he has with the fans, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth cannot see him anywhere other than Frankfurt.

“He’s expected to leave this summer so it’s a case of when, not if,” he said on the Inside Elland Road Podcast (5 March).

“It feels very likely it will be Frankfurt, they want to keep him. That one will happen. It’d be very surprising if he goes anywhere else. He’s gone.”

Leeds need to cut their losses with Kristensen

Now that Leeds seem to be well on their way towards earning promotion to the Premier League, plans are going to have to be made for the upcoming summer transfer window.

While there are many areas within Leeds’ squad that could do with strengthening to ensure their survival, their number nine as well as their full-backs should be an area on top of their priority list.

Indeed, Junior Firpo and Jayden Bogle have both had rather impressive seasons in the Championship, but if their past experiences in the top flight are anything to go by, Farke could do with some reinforcement.

This season, the Whites have been a dominant force in the second tier but no matter how many additions they make to their squad next term, they’re likely to be on the back foot.

So, in reality, Leeds’ full-backs need to be more defensive-minded than what they are currently, which is why cutting their losses with Kristensen is the best move.

His sale will generate more funding for Leeds, which is ideal because they’ll need all the transfer funds they can get if they wish to stay in the Premier League next term.
