Kostas Tsimikas gives Leeds answer as Liverpool exit stance revealed

Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas is on Leeds United’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

Daniel Farke is looking for players with Premier League experience to bolster his squad as they return to the top flight.

The Greek international has made 28 appearances for the Anfield outfit this season but the latest development from Merseyside could see his future lie elsewhere, potentially at Elland Road.

Liverpool ready to sell Leeds target Tsimikas

The Whites need a new left-back as Junior Firpo is expected to leave upon the expiry of his contract in LS11.

Replacing him with the Greece star could be a shrewd move, as he is behind Andy Robertson is the pecking order under Arne Slot.

Respected Liverpool-focused journalist David Lynch told Liverpool News that the 29-year-old could be available when the market reopens due to the Reds’ plans to sign a new player in the position.

He said: “It’s perhaps a little early to give guarantees around departures just yet because Liverpool are ultimately at the mercy of whether an acceptable offer arrives and you can’t always predict that.

“But it’s fair to assume that Kostas Tsimikas isn’t in the ‘not for sale’ camp of players going into this summer.

“It’s widely known now that they plan to add a left-back in the coming window, and something will have to give with both Tsimikas and Andy Robertson already on the books.

“Robertson appears keen to stick around and continue fighting for a place and so Tsimikas makes sense as the likely departure of the two.

“There was some interest in the Greek last summer that didn’t turn into anything concrete and so I’m sure he’ll have plenty of suitors.

“At the age of 29 and after five years at Liverpool, there is a feeling he will be ready to take his winners’ medals and move on to play more frequently elsewhere, too.”

Tsimikas would be a great replacement for Firpo

If Firpo does depart, it would be a huge blow for the Peacocks, he was a pivotal piece of their promotion-winning squad, notching four goals and 10 assists.

However, he struggled the last time that he played at the elite level, so replacing him with an experienced player may be a great solution for all parties.

Tsimikas has featured 114 times for the Merseysiders in all competitions and has plenty of experience at the top level of the game.

Since moving to L4 in 2020, the ex-Olympiakos ace has won the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and a Premier League title and has notched 18 assists, proving to be a creative asset under both Jurgen Klopp and Slot when he is given a chance.

He is also defensively solid and deserves the chance to start regularly rather than being forced to play a rotational role behind Robertson, as he has done for the last five seasons.

It would be a huge show of ambition if the 49ers could sign a player from the reigning English champions for Farke, a great start to their business as they look to survive on their return to the promised land.
