Kinnear ‘confident’ Leeds will sign major attacker target after eight-figure bid tabled – report

The Scottish Sun has quoted Leeds United chief Angus Kinnear, saying he is “confident” that Ryan Kent will move to Elland Road this summer.

The comes after Steven Gerrard confirmed an opening bid – said to be for £10m – from Leeds had been rejected on Friday.

However, in an interview in the Scottish Sun, Gerrard admitted that while the first offer was “nowhere near”, Leeds could submit an offer that Rangers can’t refuse.

“What I will say is that if the valuation of any player is met then, as much as I would like the final say on it, it will probably be taken out of my hands,” Gerrard said.

“I’m a realist. I’m not stupid. I realise the power of Leeds now that they are a Premier League team.”

How keen are Leeds to land Kent?

It seems that Kent is there for the taking if Leeds want to match the price that Rangers have in mind.

If that’s double what they paid for him, Leeds would be able to get Kent for £13m, which would be a decent deal for both sides.

If Kinnear is confident of landing Kent then it seems that Leeds are going to return with a bigger bid.

Leeds will want movement on transfers very shortly.

The Premier League starts in three weeks and we’re already entering the time when new signings won’t be ready to line-up against Liverpool in the opening game of the campaign.

We think three weeks is a minimum for players to be taught the Bielsa way at Thorp Arch and while Phil Hay predicted Leeds would push for a deal for centre-back Robin Koch over the next 48 hours, we think that will be the case for any major targets.

Rangers play Kilmarnock this afternoon and while we expect Kent to play, if he’s missing from the squad it would represent a very big development.
