Kiko Casilla on verge of Leeds United exit, Elche medical next week

Kiko Casilla is scheduled to undergo a medical with Elche next week as he edges closer to leaving Leeds United on loan, according to Spanish journalist Jeronimo Tormo.

The reporter, who works for Spanish radio station COPE Elche, said on Twitter on Friday that Casilla, 34, is joining Elche on a season-long loan that will not have the option to be made permanent next season.

In an audio clip in the tweet, Tormo reported in Spanish that the deal is set to go through next season “once he passes medical tests”.

Deal all but done

Kiko is finally leaving Leeds.

It’s only for a year, as it stands, but that’s great news.

Casilla has been nothing but a liability for this football club.

In January 2019, Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa signed the one-time Spain international from Real Madrid and many would have expected a big-name goalkeeper to make an impact in the Championship after leaving the Bernabeu.

That wasn’t the case – not how fans would have wanted him to have an impact anyway.

Casilla’s impact has been an entirely negative one.

Yes, he’s had some good performances but the bad has outweighed the good massively during his two and a half years in West Yorkshire.

Not only have some of his performances been woeful but he’s also been banned for racism.

After that happened, he should have been shipped out straight away.

The only bad thing about this deal to take Casilla away is that it’s only a loan.

We wish it was permanent.
