Kalvin Phillips would love to join Leeds United again, transfer twist emerges
Leeds United and Kalvin Phillips have been a love story that has never ended, even after he left Elland Road all those years ago.
Leeds’ summer preparations have already begun after being crowned Championship winners, gaining promotion to the Premier League.
The title race came down to the final day with United finishing above Burnley on goal difference, thanks to a later winner from Manor Solomon against Plymouth Argyle.
Now, with promotion secured, the Whites could be tempted to make a move for Phillips, but it won’t be straightforward.

Phillips ready for Leeds return
With staying up in the Premier League next season a major objective, United are willing to do major work on their squad this summer.
As reported by TBR Football (8 May), Phillips would “love” to return to his former side after recovering his form on loan at Ipswich under Kieran McKenna.
Season | Games | Minutes |
2024/25 | 22 | 1.464′ |
2023/24 | 20 | 639′ |
2022/23 | 21 | 595′ |
It is understood that Phillips is a player Leeds have been considering for several months, but a move could be difficult.
While Manchester City are willing to sell Phillips, he has three years left on his contract at the Etihad, which makes a permanent move a tough ask for United, and a loan may now be more plausible.

Phillips would be an asset for Leeds
The last couple of seasons have proven it is more difficult than ever for Championship sides to stay up in the Premier League, and a move for Phillips could bolster Leeds’ chances.
The 29-year-old has spent several seasons in the Premier League since signing for City back in 2022 under one of the greatest managers ever seen.
While his time at the Manchester club has been less than ideal, he is still familiar with the league and is bound to have learned a thing or two from coach Pep Guardiola.
Daniel Farke’s side has been dominant this season, with the manager urging his side to keep the ball and attack with purpose.
Phillips’ tactical awareness, ball-winning abilities and passing range would make a fine addition to a Leeds side that is going to need all the experience they can get next season.
It could come down to where the 49ers want to spend their money.
