Kalvin Phillips to sign new Leeds United contract at the end of the summer - journalist

Leeds expect Kalvin Phillips to sign a new contract at Elland Road at the end of the summer, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Whites star midfielder has been linked with a mega money move away from the club, with Manchester United [MEN] and Manchester City [Telegraph] tipped to make a move this summer.

However Leeds sources have been coy on talk of a potential exit with a new contract on the table for the boyhood Whites fan, and now journalist Talbot has told GiveMeSport when he expects the 26-year-old to put pen to paper and end speculation.

“With Kalvin Phillips, Leeds have always said to me that he will be signing a contract at the end of the summer,” he said.

“It was implied that would be [the case] if they survived in the Premier League and they have survived, so you kind of think Kalvin Phillips would be signing the contract.”

Encouraging

With Leeds fans biting their nails about the future of their main man in midfield, this is finally a positive update to the saga.

Fans have been hopeful more than confident that Phillips would follow through with what he said at the back-end of the season and sign a new deal following the club’s survival.

But as interest from Champions League clubs became a reality, it seemed like a decision to stay would be harder than first assumed.

But with the club calm about the situation and claiming the plan has always been for a contract to be sealed at the end of the window, there seems to be nothing to worry about.

No matter who comes into the club this summer during the window, if they can keep Phillips and get him to put pen to paper on a fresh contract then that will be the best business they do.
